General Editor in Chief and general director of De Standaard is Peter Vandermeersch. He has worked for this  Belgian newspaper since 1988. In 1998 he became editor in chief and since 2001 he has been editor-in-chief / general director. He has a master degree in history and has written several books on historical / political themes.
